Our Hack Nights are events where we share knowledge about our city and how to make it better. We invite anyone to visit to learn, or to find out how they can help to make an impact. Hack Nights are part community building, part hack-a-thon, and if you're interested in any of the above please join us, visit here to get started, or contact us at info@codeformilwaukee.org
Please join us on Zoom for our next Hack Night, starting at 6pm on Thursday Jan 21, 2021. Please RSVP via this Meetup Link

Projects
The list of projects we’re working on is always changing! Here are a few of our past and current projects:
-
MKE Open Data Portal
The City has an open data portal, however, usage is fairly low and visits are generally made by a fairly homogeneous group of users (those with a certain level of technical prowess and ready-made ideas for how local open data may be useful to them). The opportunity is to increase the accessibility, responsiveness, and broad appeal for this potentially invaluable tool.
-
NexTo
NexTo was created to support projects that provide community members and essential workers with PPE and other supplies during the COVID-19 pandemic. Community organizations spend a significant amount of time and energy planning, organizing, and executing efforts to respond to time-sensitive community needs and crisis situations. This work of the social sector is critically important, but unnecessarily inefficient. NexTo helps the social sector become more rapid and efficient than traditional direct service models, and enables organizations to make a positive impact at scale.
-
Decarceration
The mission of the Wisconsin Decarceration Platform is to foster collective action for positive change in the lives of those impacted by the justice system. We are a self-organizing anti-mass incarceration community, providing a digital safe place for service providers, advocacy organizations, and affected individuals to connect with each-other and those in need of post-conviction services. We strive for equity by promoting a culture of learning, agency, and human dignity to encourage collaboration and transformation.
